Role Description

The Mobile Diesel Technician Level II will be responsible for performing licensed DOT inspections, preventative maintenance inspections, light and follow-up repairs, light mechanical/hydraulic/electrical and electronic diagnostics, and other duties as assigned. The Diesel Technician II continues to learn additional advanced mechanical skills and diagnostic techniques while complying with all company policies and achieving high-level performance metrics.

• Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (“PM”), DOT Inspections, and follow-up repairs on light, medium, and heavy-duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.
• Perform minor adjustments and repairs on various types of truck equipment including, but not limited to:
  • Electrical/Brake/Cooling Systems
  • Starters/Alternators
  • Fan clutches
  • Engine electronics
  • Diesel steering systems
  • Engines (gas and diesel)
  • Transmissions (manual and automatic)
  • Clutches
  • Differentials
• Diagnose, adjust, and repair various types of truck equipment.
• Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions using test instruments.
• Road test vehicles to diagnose malfunctions and ensure proper functioning.
• Identify problems and evaluate alternatives using sound judgment.
• Independently manage parts inventory and equipment on company-issued service truck.
• Maintain and operate company-issued service vehicle, conducting safety checks and inspections.
• Work effectively with clients and customers to assess needs and resolve issues.
• Manage concurrent assigned tasks and prioritize work-related activities.
• Use hand tools, precision instruments, and Diesel tools.
• Document work performed and findings according to company standards.
• Accurately complete DOT forms and other documentation in a timely manner.
• Work with a high degree of independence and manage daily schedule.
• Maintain a high level of productivity and work within Standard Repair Times.
• Obtain parts from approved vendors as necessary for repairs.
• Communicate with management and support team for approvals and discussions.
• Perform all work in compliance with safety, health, and environmental policies.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED and 3 years’ experience in a related field, or a different combination such as any level degree/certification beyond a HS diploma/GED in a related discipline; or 5 years’ experience in a related field.
• Possess and supply a set of hand tools necessary to perform required job duties.
• Obtain Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification T8 (PMI) within eighteen (18) months.
• Must be able to successfully complete and pass a DOT-regulated pre-employment background screening and DOT physical prior to employment.
• A current and valid DOT medical card with more than four (4) months remaining until its expiration may be submitted in lieu of a DOT physical.
• Must be at least 21 years or older due to interstate operating authority commerce regulations.
• Valid driver’s license required; must hold a valid state-of-residence driver’s license.

• Required certifications: ASE T8 (PMI) certification.
• Preferred certifications:
  • ASE T3 (Drivetrain) certification
  • ASE T4 (Brakes) certification
  • ASE T5 (Suspension) certification
  • ASE T6 (Electrical and Electronic Systems)
  • ASE T7 (HVAC) certification
  • ASE 608/609 certification
