Role Description

As a Mineral Assessment Geoscientist, you will play a key role in managing British Columbia’s collection of technical mineral exploration reports and ensuring submissions meet legislative requirements under the Mineral Tenure Act and related regulations. Working with industry clients, government partners, and colleagues across the Ministry, you will help make important geoscience information accessible, accurate, and available for future exploration activities, supporting informed decision-making and public service. Qualifications

  • Registered or immediately eligible for registration as a Professional Geoscientist (P.Geo.) with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC).
  • Bachelor’s degree in Geology and at least 4 years’ experience in mineral exploration-related geology or Master’s Degree in Geology with 2 years’ experience in mineral exploration-related geology.
  • Experience in geological mapping, mineral exploration or mining in British Columbia.
  • Experience supervising contractors and managing projects.
  • Experience using GIS software (e.g., Manifold, ArcGIS, MapInfo, or QGIS).
  • Experience with computer graphics, web applications and office productivity software (e.g. CorelDRAW, Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Office, etc.).
  • Experience in publishing and presenting geoscientific results to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Preference may be given to candidates with experience in/with one or more of the following:
    • Geology, geochemistry, mineral resources, mineral deposits, Quaternary geology, mineral exploration techniques and interpretation, and/or other related areas of expertise.
    • The Mineral Tenure Act and Regulation.
    • The geology, mineral deposits and mineral exploration in the Canadian Cordillera.
    • Mineral industry clients and their geoscience information requirements.
    • Professional scientific standards as applied to original research, analysis and publishing reports and maps.
    • Publishing geoscience data and results in peer-reviewed journals and government literature.

Requirements

  • Remote work is allowed; this position can work up to full time from their home in British Columbia subject to an approved telework agreement.
  • This position can be based in a Natural Resource Sector office.
  • An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies.
  • Applicants who do not fully meet the required qualifications may be considered for this position, but at a lower classification.
  • Depending on the successful candidate’s location, a bi-weekly isolation allowance may apply.
  • A Criminal Record Check (CRC) will be required.
  • Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment.
