Role Description

Join the Merrill-Cazier Library's Access Services team in supporting students, faculty, staff, and community members and creating a welcoming hub for curiosity, collaboration, and community at USU. The library is seeking a Virtual Service Points Coordinator to coordinate and support virtual service points, with a primary focus on chat services. This position provides virtual assistance, coordinates chat schedules and workflows, contributes to assessment and training, and supports service improvements.

Reporting to the Head of Access Services, this position supports service point procedures, policies, workflows, and services. The position also supports library public spaces initiatives, contributes to assessment and training, and participates in library projects and initiatives. Working collaboratively with colleagues, this position supports library priorities and provides welcoming, accessible, and consistent services to the campus community.

This is a full-time, benefited Library Coordinator position with a minimum salary of $49,000. The typical work schedule is Monday-Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm; however, hours will vary based on library hours, university calendars, holidays, and departmental needs.

Anticipated start date: September 2026

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and support virtual service points, including chat scheduling, staffing, queue management, and workflows.
  • Provide operational support for library service points, including chat and circulation desk shifts, staff support, and patron service.
  • Develop and improve service point procedures, policies, workflows, and services in collaboration with colleagues.
  • Coordinate and support assessment activities, including collecting, organizing, maintaining, and reporting statistical data and records.
  • Support staff training and development, including training resources, curriculum and outcomes mapping, and instructions workshops.
  • Support library public spaces initiatives, including active participation on the Library Public Spaces Committee and related projects.
  • Contribute to collaborative library projects and initiatives, including Pop-Up Gallery displays, programming, committees, working groups, and other projects assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree; or four years of library experience.
  • Experience providing reference, research, or patron services in an academic library or similar environment.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work positively with students, staff, faculty, and community members.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, prioritize work, meet deadlines, and manage competing responsibilities.
  • Strong problem-solving and judgment skills, with the ability to make appropriate procedural decisions, resolve complex service issues, use standard office software, and learn library technologies.

Requirements

  • Experience providing virtual reference, chat, or other online library services, preferably in an academic library.
  • Experience supporting library service points, operational workflows, or related library services.
  • Experience using library technologies, such as integrated library systems, Springshare products, Canvas, or similar platforms.
  • Experience collecting, organizing, maintaining, or reporting assessment data, including use of spreadsheets, databases, or other data management tools.
  • Experience supporting staff training, workshops, library instruction, or collaborative library projects and initiatives.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

Work is performed indoors in an open office environment with shared cubicle workspaces. Employees are protected from weather and contaminants but may experience occasional temperature changes. The position requires prolonged sitting, frequent computer use and repetitive hand motions (such as typing), as well as regular walking, talking, and hearing. The position also requires occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of library materials and the ability to move loaded book carts.
