Role Description

The main responsibility of the Lead Germany Scout is to identify and recommend players for Brentford Football Club’s First Team & B Team from all key markets in Germany across 1st team and youth levels – both Club & International football.

Feeding into the Central Europe Recruitment function within the wider main recruitment department, the successful applicant will be expected to build a detailed knowledge of players within their region, recommending players accordingly and decisively.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead on the identification, assessment and shortlisting of suitable player targets for Brentford Football Club from First Team and U21 football in Germany.
  • Attend live fixtures across all relevant German based fixtures; proactively and on request.
  • Work closely with the Head of Central Europe Recruitment & Lead Technical Scout in the assessment of suitable player profiles identified through data & other resources in Germany.
  • Communicate with agents / external network effectively on players of interest within Germany to gather market intelligence to inform the scouting process.
  • Provide monthly position specific player recommendations from German markets focusing on appropriate players for Brentford Football Club’s First Team and B Team.
  • Work effectively within the defined Scouting Department processes to ensure serious players of interest from Germany are identified and progressed on faster and more effectively than competitors.
  • Watch videos of potential players of interest and file reports in line with the Recruitment Departments process.
  • Assist the Head of Central Europe Recruitment / Head of Recruitment / Technical Director to ensure comprehensive due diligence on all players of interest from Germany.
  • Assist the Head of Central Europe Recruitment / Head of Recruitment on any additional responsibilities relevant to your role and region covered.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrable experience / knowledge of working within a professional football club scouting department, focusing on German football.
  • Existing high-level player knowledge of German Football at 1st team and youth levels.
  • Multilingual – ability to speak German & English.
  • A strong and established network of contacts working within German football at an elite level.
  • Ability to attend live games and identify the best, most suitable players for a football club’s positional criteria.
  • Ability to work with data / resource to provide assessment on players in alignment with a football club’s positional criteria.
  • Ability to articulate player assessments effectively through verbal and written communication.
  • Ability to work effectively within clearly defined processes.
  • Organized, structured, and process driven.
  • Proactive mindset.

Specialist Skills

  • Experience of using relevant football scouting video platforms.
  • Ability to edit / clip video footage using platforms such as WyScout, iMovie, Windows Video Editor etc.
  • IT literate, competent in the use of Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.

People Skills

  • Establish and maintain strong working relationships with key stakeholders including; Technical Director, Head of Recruitment, Chief Scout, Head of Central Europe Recruitment, Lead Technical Scout, and Central Europe Scouting team.
  • A strong and established network of contacts working within football across various levels.

External Impact

  • Represent the club visibly and professionally within the target area.
  • Maintain strong and professional relationships with all stakeholders within the target area.

Decision Making

  • Organise personal schedule, combining live and technical viewings of targets, ensuring full coverage of target area.
  • Submit monthly recommendations from target area in line with the department’s processes.

  • Build and maintain good working relationships while maintaining a professional image.
