Role Description
The IRB Reliance Analyst is responsible for conducting regulatory activities pertaining to the review of initial submissions, continuing reviews, and amendments submitted to external IRBs. Key responsibilities include:
- Acting as liaison between external IRBs and researchers, serving as a primary point of contact and subject matter expert on regulations governing research with human subjects.
- Conducting independent, in-depth reviews focusing on institutional and regulatory compliance.
- Reviewing, negotiating terms, and facilitating the execution of IRB reliance agreements.
- Advising and providing consultative services to researchers and research staff.
- Developing policies, procedures, and tools to facilitate and streamline practices related to reliance agreement review processes.
- Providing clear and accurate instructions, guidance, and support to research investigators and staff throughout the regulatory process.
- Participating in problem-solving and quality improvement activities with other members of the HRPP and IRB team.
- Keeping up-to-date on new trends in human research and learning new approaches for the application of federal regulations.
- Informing and educating the IRB and HRPP staff of changes in regulations or local review processes.
- Assisting with cross coverage of IRB Analyst colleagues when needed.
- Assisting with annual reporting, site visit preparation, and regulatory audit preparation.
- Tracking reviewer activities, specified events, and IRB timelines for internal and external reporting purposes.
- Maintaining detailed knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations and ethical principles regarding the protection of human subjects in research.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree (Required)
- Minimum of 2 years of effective and relevant work experience in HRPP or IRB
- Completes and maintains CIP or CIM certification with one year of eligibility
Requirements
- 2-4 years of effective and relevant work in IRB preferred.
- Will accept AS degree with 5+ years work in IRB & Certification in IRB.
Skills and Competencies
- Considerable exercise of professional judgment related to sensitive, confidential, and technical situations.
- Facile with a variety of electronic platforms, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and multiple electronic submission systems.
- Excellent interpersonal and professional writing skills.
- Ability to manage multiple simultaneous projects with meticulous attention to detail.
- Ability to work efficiently in a complex regulatory environment.
- Ability to work effectively under time restraint pressures with minimal supervision.
- Flexibility and willingness to meet the business needs of the HRPP, the IRB, and the Division of Academic Affairs.
