[Hiring] Interpreter @UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency

Role Description

The role involves providing interpretation services for the language of Khmer. The work can be performed remotely.

• Translate accurately and professionally, in a timely manner, documents related to Registration (REG), Refugee Status Determination (RSD), Resettlement (RST), Community Services, and other Protection purposes for the UNHCR Representation in Thailand from Khmer to English and vice versa.
• Interpret during REG/RSD/RST/CS/Protection interviews/counseling sessions of asylum seekers/refugees.
• Interpret for other UNHCR Offices/staff members and/or delegations of resettlement countries in Bangkok when requested and with prior approval from the RSD Officer.
• Interpret in various Protection information sessions, briefings, training, and related sessions including best interest determination.
• Interpret telephone inquiries made by asylum-seekers/refugees/phone callers in the assigned language when instructed by the immediate Supervisor.
• Report to the Supervisor on each call received for recording in the database, Progres, and further action by other responsible staff.
• Perform other interpretation and translation functions as requested by the supervisors.

Qualifications

• Proven skills in communicating proficiently from Khmer to English and vice versa.
• Professional conduct and ethics in performing interpretation and translation services.
• Prior experience in interpretation/translation is desirable.

Requirements

• 1 year relevant experience with High School Diploma; or Bachelor or equivalent or higher for G4 level.
• Essential functional skills include IT-Computer Literacy.
• Knowledge of English and UN working language of the duty station if not English.
• For National Professional jobs: Knowledge of English and UN working language of the duty station if not English and local language.
