[Hiring] Head of Live Editorial @Axios

Role Description

Axios is hiring a Head of Live Editorial to join our award-winning events team, Axios Live. This senior editorial leader will oversee macro people management, connect the Booking and Coverage silos, and serve as the primary liaison between Axios Live and the broader newsroom.

• Set the editorial vision and strategy for Axios Live programming across all event formats.
• Ensure all Axios Live editorial outputs meet Axios’ editorial standards and Smart Brevity style.
• Exercise sound editorial judgment in fast-moving news environments.
• Lead and develop the Axios Live editorial team, overseeing team structure, role design, performance management, and career development.
• Foster a collaborative, high-performing culture aligned with Axios’ mission and values.
• Serve as the primary liaison to the broader newsroom, aligning editorial priorities and resource sharing.
• Partner with Communications for timely promotion and coverage of Axios Live events.
• Lead rigorous copy editing and final editorial review of external-facing materials.
• Develop event concepts, programming arcs, and editorial frameworks for all Axios events.
• Shape a diverse, compelling Axios Live programming portfolio.
• Partner with Sales and Partnerships to design sponsored and branded programming.
• Contribute to the strategic growth of Axios Live, including new formats and revenue opportunities.
• Demonstrate comfort with AI, automation, and emerging tools to improve workflows.
• Represent Axios Live internally and externally as a senior editorial voice.
• Own the connective tissue between Booking and Coverage.
• Ensure seamless coordination among editorial, events, sales, and partnerships.

Qualifications

• 12 - 15+ years of journalism or editorial experience, including significant experience leading teams.
• Significant experience in live news, events, TV or video production, or related fields.
• Proven success working in, or closely with, a newsroom.
• Excellent writing, copy editing, and research skills.
• Deep familiarity with digital and social media landscapes.
• Strong understanding of Axios’ Smart Brevity style.
• Demonstrated ability to lead and scale editorial teams.
• Ability to operate in high-pressure situations and meet tight deadlines.
• An extensive rolodex of senior leaders, policymakers, and newsmakers.
• Understanding of how editorial excellence supports business goals.
• Ability to travel for major events and activations.
• Experience with video editing, live production, or broadcast is a plus.
