Role Description

Packetlabs is looking for an Ethical Hacker - Hardware to lead security assessments of embedded and IoT devices, focusing on vulnerabilities in silicon, firmware, and board layout.

This role involves:

  • Hands-on assessment of embedded systems across various industries.
  • Working directly with clients to understand their devices and improve security posture.

Requirements

  • Plan and execute end-to-end hardware penetration tests.
  • Identify, access, and exploit on-board debug interfaces.
  • Extract firmware and analyze it for vulnerabilities.
  • Intercept and analyze data on common embedded buses.
  • Perform side-channel analysis and fault injection where applicable.
  • Reverse engineer firmware and embedded binaries.
  • Write high-quality technical reports and present findings.
  • Advise clients on practical remediation.
  • Build and maintain lab tooling and internal methodology.
  • Contribute to research and internal knowledge-sharing.

Education and Experience

  • Graduate of an Information Security, Computer Science, or Computer/Electrical Engineering degree program (or equivalent experience).
  • Strong electronics fundamentals and ability to read schematics.
  • Hands-on soldering ability and experience with debug interfaces.
  • Comfort with core bench instruments.
  • Firmware reverse-engineering skills and scripting proficiency in Python.
  • Familiarity with common embedded architectures and RTOS/bare-metal concepts.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.

Nice to have

  • Experience with side-channel/fault-injection.
  • RF and wireless work experience.
  • Knowledge of secure boot chains and HSMs.
  • PCB design familiarity.
  • Published CVEs or conference talks.
  • Relevant certifications.
