Role Description

This position is based in Edgerton, Wisconsin. The Field Service Technician is responsible for leading the start-up, testing, and commissioning of low- and medium-voltage switchgear and automatic transfer switches using specialized test equipment. This role plays a critical part in ensuring systems are properly installed, configured, validated, and fully operational prior to customer handoff.

• Develop, implement, and manage predictive and preventative maintenance programs for installed-base customers.
• Execute all aspects of field service work, including site assessments, equipment installation, start-up, testing, commissioning, and ongoing maintenance of power distribution, control, and automation systems.
• Lead and support complex commissioning, upgrade, and modernization activities.
• Perform advanced troubleshooting, service, and repair activities on paralleling switchgear, ATS, control systems, and related mechanical equipment.
• Complete assigned field projects on schedule, meeting all customer functional, safety, quality, and performance requirements.
• Collaborate closely with the local Field Service team and Thomson Power Systems (TPS) headquarters.
• Build and maintain strong customer and vendor relationships.
• Provide timely and detailed follow-up to customer requests.
• Accurately track and submit project documentation.
• Support the Technical Call Desk with diagnostics and troubleshooting.
• Adhere to established testing and maintenance procedures.
• Support technical training programs for customers, partners, and employees.
• Perform quality assurance reviews of engineering drawings.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of hands-on experience performing preventive and predictive maintenance on power distribution and control equipment.
• Demonstrated experience installing, maintaining, testing, and repairing circuit breakers, transformers, switchgear, and related electrical, control, and automation equipment.
• Strong knowledge of applicable health, safety, and electrical codes and standards, including CSA, NFPA, and UL requirements.
• Proficient with general PC tools, including email, internet, data entry, Microsoft Word, Excel, and OneNote.
• Ability to read and interpret detailed electrical schematics and mechanical drawings.
• Strong customer service orientation, with a professional, solutions-focused approach in the field.

Requirements

• NETA or NICET certification (ETT Level II or higher) in electrical equipment testing strongly preferred.
• OSHA 30-Hour, MSHA, and NFPA 70E training preferred.
• Proven experience starting up and commissioning low- and medium-voltage generator paralleling switchgear.
• Advanced knowledge of industrial electrical equipment, including switchgear, ATS, circuit breakers, and generators.
• Advanced understanding of industrial control systems, including metering, protective relaying, relay ladder logic, PLCs, and HMIs.
• Willingness to travel up to 50% as required by customer and business needs.
