Role Description

The Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air (CREA) is looking for a Europe-Russia Analyst to work on accelerating Europe’s clean energy transition and tracking CO2 emissions, whilst also supporting the team’s analysis of sanctions on Russian fossil fuels. The applicant would support the team with their current work tracking Russia’s fossil fuel exports, writing analysis on the impact of the sanctions, but they will also be a key member driving the team's new project to track the EU’s live CO2 emissions by country and by sector using the new database that our data scientists have built.

This is a unique opportunity to join our project tracking Russia’s fossil fuel exports, analysing the impacts of sanctions, identifying loopholes, and providing policy advice to key decision-makers, whilst also being an important part of our new project to track the EU’s CO2 emissions.

As part of our Europe-Russia Policy & Energy Analysis Team, you will develop reports and briefings on the trade in Russia’s fossil fuels, the impact of measures taken by importers, and investigate the trends and impacts of the energy crisis in Europe. Your main tasks will include using data and research findings to write engaging, well-communicated and accessible reports. Developing data visualisations and other products to communicate our research is also key. This diverse role will provide you with exposure to well-regarded media outlets and senior policy officials working in key decision-making institutions.

This role reports to our Europe-Russia Team Lead.

CREA is a fully remote organisation, with current team members in Europe and Asia. Your location is flexible, but with a preference to be based in the European time zone. The position will likely encompass international travel to locations such as London and Brussels to meet with colleagues, policymakers and campaigners.

Qualifications

• 5 years of experience working with data and on Europe’s clean energy transition or Europe’s decarbonisation.
• Ability to develop briefings and reports from our data and research.
• Demonstrable experience using data analysis and research, expertly presenting the key findings in briefings to policymakers or as commentary to journalists.
• Strong writing and editing skills.
• Strong command of English.
• Experience collaborating across other research organisations.
• Ability to create articles or research, finding implications from analysis based on the data.
• Experience working with policymakers, understanding the levers available to policymakers to facilitate the clean energy transition.

Desirable but not essential experience:

• Good command of Europe’s policy-making process.
• Experience also working on sanctions is a strong bonus, too.
• Networks within relevant NGOs, as well as contacts among journalists and policymakers working on the clean energy transition and decarbonisation, are a strong bonus.
• Working in the European time zone is a preference.
