Role Description

We are seeking a highly capable Estimator / Project Coordinator with experience in mechanical plumbing and/or HVAC systems. This role combines technical estimating with project coordination, requiring strong attention to detail, commercial awareness, and the ability to manage multiple moving parts across projects.

You will be responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates, supporting project delivery, and ensuring all documentation, pricing, and coordination activities are executed with precision.

Key Responsibilities:

• Prepare accurate cost estimates for mechanical plumbing and HVAC projects based on drawings, specifications, and scope of works.
• Interpret construction drawings, schematics, and technical documents to develop detailed Bills of Quantities (BOQs).
• Build and maintain detailed cost breakdowns, including labour, materials, subcontractors, and equipment.
• Source and evaluate supplier and subcontractor pricing to ensure competitive and accurate estimates.
• Support project coordination activities from tender stage through to delivery.
• Track project costs and assist in maintaining budgets and margin targets.
• Liaise with engineers, project managers, suppliers, and subcontractors to clarify scope and resolve discrepancies.
• Assist in procurement and purchasing of materials where required.
• Maintain accurate records of estimates, pricing assumptions, and project documentation.
• Use Excel and estimating/software tools to manage data, pricing models, and reporting.
• Identify risks, gaps, and inconsistencies in project documentation and proactively resolve them.

Qualifications

• Experience in mechanical plumbing and/or HVAC estimating OR coordination.
• Strong Excel / spreadsheet capability.
• Ability to read construction drawings and specifications.
• Experience with BOQs and cost build-ups.
• Excellent organisational skills.
• Mechanical plumbing background.
• HVAC plant / pipework knowledge.
• Exposure to rigging, steel fabrication, and welding.
• Procurement / purchasing experience.
• Experience with systems such as AroFlo or similar.
• Detail-obsessed with strong focus on accuracy.
• Proactive mindset — able to identify gaps without direction.
• Strong communication skills, especially in remote environments.
• Commercial mindset — understands margins, not just cost.

Requirements

• This role is expected to align with the AU business hours (approx. 9 AM - 5 PM, Monday to Friday) for collaboration, but as a contractor, you’ll have flexibility in how you manage your time.
• This is a remote role that will be set up as an independent contractor engagement.
• Successful candidates will be expected to disclose any existing ongoing roles or client work.
