Role Description

This role serves as the primary application owner for Epic Research at CHOP. This role is experienced in enterprise Epic Research administration or data management services and concentrates on strategic advances of the program within the larger CHOP enterprise while also supporting the day-to-day needs of its users. As strategic owner for the application, the role will generally align Epic Research with various support groups by regularly engaging clinical research leadership, information systems support personnel, Epic Research end users, data security, and governance groups.

This role will be expected to work cross functionally with leadership and peers to advance functionality to support the Strategic Plan. The individual will advocate for appropriate support of the application and will develop and report on various metrics such as usage, support needs, governance, and general health of the evolving program.

This role will provide support to end users, develop and offer trainings, oversee upgrades, socialize new features, and assist with adapting study designs for Epic Research usage. The individual will develop skills in new and customizable aspects of the Epic application by managing new feature implementation and API integrations. The most successful individual in this role will also seek to align Epic and its associated workflows with the capabilities of other clinical research applications such as OnCore, REDCap, etc. in order to maximize data value within the context of research studies. May mentor other staff and lead teams.

What you will do

  • Independently serves as the primary application owner for Epic Research at CHOP and concentrates on strategic advances of the program while also supporting the day-to-day needs of its users.
  • Aligns Epic Research with various support groups by regularly engaging clinical research stakeholders and leadership, Digital & Technology Services support personnel, Epic end users, data security, and governance groups.
  • Works cross functionally with leadership and peers to advance functionality to support the Strategic Plan.
  • Advocates for appropriate support of the application and develops and reports on various metrics such as usage, support needs, governance, and general health of the evolving program.
  • Oversees Epic Research upgrades and interfaces in collaboration with the vendor and Research DTS.
  • Participates in the development, validation, and execution of test plans.
  • Demonstrates ability to diagnose and resolve technical, management, and business issues and to recommend areas for process improvement or innovation.
  • Identifies new Epic Research features to implement and assists with continued implementation of those features at CHOP.
  • Provides support to end users, develops and offers trainings, oversees upgrades, socializes new features, and assists with adapting study designs for Epic Research usage within complex studies.
  • Develop customizable aspects of the Epic Research application by managing new feature implementation and API integrations.
  • Seeks to align Epic Research and its associated workflows with the capabilities of other clinical research applications such as OnCore, REDCap, etc. in order to maximize data value within the context of research studies.
  • Regularly learns and applies best practices.
  • As applicable, mentors and trains new staff.
  • As applicable, directly supervises team members, coaches team and enforces compliance with department and hospital policies and procedures. Provides feedback to staff and management.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree - Required
  • Master's Degree - Preferred

Requirements

  • At least seven (7) years related systems and applications experience. Required
  • At least five (5) years experience in the biomedical research field in an applied data management or services role and/or experience in clinical research study or trial management. Required
  • At least five (5) years of experience in Epic administration or similar clinical research applications administration (e.g., OnCore, REDCap). Preferred
  • At least five (5) years of supervisory or management experience. Preferred
  • Previous project management experience of complex matrix projects. Preferred
  • Previous experience with source code management, application development, data services, and/or project lifecycle management. Preferred

Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrated oral, presentation, and written communication skills.
  • Highly communicative, collaborative, transparent, and engaging customer service approach.
  • Working knowledge of one or more commonly used biomedical and academic research-focused data management systems such as Epic preferred.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and coordinate multiple tasks.
  • Proficiency in web-enabled technologies and software.
  • Understanding of database software.
  • IRB, HIPAA, and privacy protection compliance standards knowledge preferred.

Salary Range

$107,200.00 - $142,100.00 Annually. Salary ranges are shown for full-time jobs. If you're working part-time, your pay will be adjusted accordingly.
