Role Description

This is an Occupational Safety and Health Consultant position with the Wisconsin On-Site Safety and Health Consultation Program (WisCon), within the Wisconsin State Laboratory of Hygiene (WSLH), and performing duties under the general supervision of the Consultation Program Manager. This professional-level position is focused on providing a broad range of on-site occupational safety and health expertise and guidance to private sector businesses throughout Wisconsin with emphasis on working with clients in the construction field. A home-based consultant located in Northern Wisconsin would be ideal to provide services to companies in that geographical location, although travel throughout the state should be anticipated. Highway travel within the state of WI is frequent and routine, typically 4 single-night, consultant-scheduled, overnight trips per month using a state-owned vehicle. While substantial occupational safety and health experience is preferred, WisCon is also an outstanding place to establish and grow a new professional's occupational safety and health career. Team members are provided with extensive training, assistance, and peer-mentorship throughout their employment with WisCon. The ideal candidate will be fully remote in mid to Northern Wisconsin.

Key Job Responsibilities

• Identifies operational and safety issues and develops improvement plans and standard operating procedures - 5%
• Reviews industry updates and may assist in developing safety communication materials based on industry changes - 5%
• Communicates findings to necessary stakeholders - 5%
• Secures resources and schedules logistics for a safety program - 5%
• Provides knowledge and guidance to internal and external stakeholders including leadership, in a specialized area of safety such as biosafety, chemical, hazardous materials, agriculture, lake, radiation, and Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) - 75%
• Directs logistical activities, allocates resources and investigates components of specific health and safety cases - 5%

Qualifications

• A minimum of 8 years of experience in the occupational safety and health field.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in the construction sphere.

Education

• Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited University, preferred.

Compensation

• Minimum Salary: $65,000/year
• Depending on the experience of a successful candidate, the position will pay according to the salary administration guidelines.
• Actual pay is determined at hire and is based on experience and qualifications.
