[Hiring] Entry-Level Archaeological Technician @AECOM

Role Description

AECOM is actively seeking an Entry-Level Archaeological Technician. This position will be a remote, part-time position and is expected to begin as soon as possible.

The Archaeological Technician will provide field and lab support to cultural resource projects throughout the US. Responsibilities include:

• Performing archaeological fieldwork, laboratory analysis, and documentation.
• Working under the direction of Crew Chiefs, Field Director, and Principal Investigator.
• Collaborating with technical field, lab, and office staff, managers, and administrative staff to ensure that projects meet AECOM quality standards.
• Supporting supervisors as needed on a project basis, including:
• Providing graphic support
• Writing
• Travel coordination
• Project/paperwork organizational support
• Preparing equipment for field projects as directed by supervisors
• Performing data entry, artifact labeling, and copying records for curation.
• Engaging in manual labor, including excavation with shovels and moving wheelbarrows filled with dirt.
• Having the ability to perform bending, kneeling, standing, and lifting and carrying objects weighing 50 lbs.
• Having a tolerance for working in outdoor environments, including prolonged walking or standing on various terrain in a wide range of weather conditions.
• Building or repairing field/lab equipment as needed.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma
• Valid U.S. Driver’s License required to visit project sites, clients, and other AECOM offices. Selected candidate must pass a Motor Vehicle Records review.
• U.S. Citizenship is required due to the nature of the work.
• BA or BS in Archaeology, Anthropology, or related field or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education preferred.
• Experience with Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Global Positioning System (GPS), Total Station, Adobe Illustrator/Photoshop, Statistical Analysis (e.g., SAS or SPSS).
• Completion of a university-based archaeological field school.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Previous related internship experience is preferred.
