[Hiring] EHS Manager-Transportation @Chemtrade

Role Description

The EHS Manager – Transportation leads the implementation, oversight, and continuous improvement of Environmental, Health & Safety programs across the Chemtrade private trucking fleet and its third-party carrier network. This role assists with:

• Driver safety performance
• DOT/FMCSA regulatory compliance
• Incident investigation
• EHS training for drivers and private fleet management

Additionally, the EHS Manager partners with Transportation, Operations, and Private Fleet Regional Managers (PFRM’s) to:

• Reduce risk and prevent injuries, incidents, and environmental releases
• Monitor leading and lagging safety indicators (including hard-braking and aggressive-driving data)
• Maintain compliance calendars and recordkeeping
• Drive a proactive continuous-improvement safety culture across all fleet operations

This position performs other duties as assigned by EHS leadership to support department goals.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in occupational health & safety, environmental science, transportation/logistics, or a related field is preferred but not required.
• Minimum 5–7 years of EHS or safety management experience, preferably within trucking, private fleet, or transportation operations.
• Working knowledge of DOT/FMCSA regulations, hours-of-service rules, hazardous materials transportation (49 CFR), and related compliance requirements.
• Experience with incident investigation, root-cause analysis, and corrective action follow-up.
• High proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and EHS management/reporting systems.
• Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, with the ability to build consensus and influence private drivers, PFRM’s, and site managers.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills; ability to manage multiple sites and priorities against deadlines.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization.
• Willingness to travel 30–50%, including overnight stays, to support terminals, audits, and training.

Requirements

• Manage incident/near-miss investigations including follow-up, closure using company approved Incident Management Systems.
• Prepare Level 1 incident reports and participate in incident review calls.
• Own the EHS onboarding process and tracking for newly hired drivers.
• Develop and deliver safety training specific to private fleet drivers.
• Conduct monthly training sessions with Private Fleet Regional Managers (PFRM’s) and site managers.
• Participate in regular one-on-one meetings with the transportation managers.
• Promote proactive safety participation across all drivers and transportation staff.
• Complete PPE hazard and ergonomic assessments for driver and transportation related roles.
• Review and update Emergency Response Plans and procedures for private fleet.
• Lead annual reviews and conduct audits at Chemtrade and customer sites.
• Oversee EHS requirements for contractor work performed on trucks at company sites.
• Travel to Chemtrade and customer sites to provide EHS support and conduct audits.
