Role Description

As a Driver & Vehicle Investigator, you will conduct routine investigations involving licensing fraud by using your established investigative techniques to gather, analyze, and interpret evidence and legal documents. You will prepare clear, thorough investigative reports that are peer reviewed for accuracy, consistency, and compliance with established requirements while also conducting peer reviews of investigative reports prepared by your colleagues. In this role, you will play an important role in protecting the integrity and reliability of our agency’s records.

  • Prepare accurate and thorough investigative reports.
  • Review and evaluate case information and supporting documentation to ensure completeness and accuracy of assigned investigations.
  • Identify possible identity theft, identity fraud, and data error in the facial recognition system and update and maintain accurate records in accordance with established procedures to support case resolution and assignment.
  • Assist business partners and customers regarding explanation or interpretation of agency programs, policies, procedures, WACs, RCWs, and management decisions.
  • Respond to law enforcement and other governmental agencies’ requests for records and information in accordance with applicable federal and state laws.

Qualifications

  • One (1) year of experience with a state or governmental agency, criminal justice agency, armed forces investigative agency, private organization, or investigating personal backgrounds, unfair/deceptive business practices, or other directly related field to include:
    • Researching records and developing case files
    • Gathering, preserving, and presenting documentary evidence
    • Obtaining statements of fact, depositions, or confessions
    • Establishing proof of facts and evidence sufficient to be used in a court or administrative hearing.
    • Writing clear and concise investigative reports chronologically.
  • OR Two (2) years of college-level course work with emphasis in law or one of the criminal justice disciplines or directly allied field.
  • Experience must include:
    • Two (2) years of experience operating web and computer-based software programs to input, access, retrieve and review information pertinent to investigative processes as well as write documents, send emails and edit spreadsheets.
    • One (1) year of experience researching, analyzing, interpreting, and explaining Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), RCWs, WACs, state and federal laws, rules, regulations, statutes, policies, and applying relevant work experience to customers and business partners.
  • The ability to:

Requirements

  • In-office presence is required for the first four (4) weeks of initial training and onboarding, followed by one (1) day per week at the Highways and Licensing Building (HLB) in Olympia. The typical work schedule will be Monday - Friday 8AM - 5PM.
  • Prior to a new hire, a background check including criminal record history will be conducted. Information from the background check will not necessarily preclude employment but will be considered in determining the applicant’s suitability and competence to perform in the position.
  • Must prove US citizenship and pass fingerprint based federal background check to include a malfeasance check on employee for the past five (5) years.
  • An acceptable fingerprint based criminal history background check is also required for this position. Fingerprints will be used to check the criminal history records of the FBI.
  • You will have the capability to review and challenge any record through the FBI.
  • If selected for interview, you will be asked to provide up to three (3) professional references.
