Role Description

A day in the life as a Director of Estimating is focused on leading and aligning all preconstruction efforts to drive successful project awards and support overall business growth. You’ll oversee estimating teams, guide strategy on bids and pricing, and collaborate closely with clients, vendors, and internal stakeholders to ensure projects are positioned competitively while maintaining profitability. Throughout the day, you’ll balance high-level planning with hands-on involvement—reviewing estimates, solving challenges, and stepping in where needed to keep timelines on track. You’ll also focus on building strong relationships, developing your team, and ensuring alignment across departments. This is a fast-paced, high-impact role that requires strong business acumen, leadership, and flexibility to adapt to shifting priorities while consistently delivering results.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the management of preconstruction process and teams in the Blattner renewable market.
• Collaborate closely with Commercial Operations and field execution teams to facilitate the estimating process.
• Ensure the business strategy and plan is recognized and followed.
• Partner with Directors of Construction to involve appropriate individuals from field execution teams during the bid process.
• Monitor the preconstruction process to ensure Managers are following the schedule for successful project execution.
• Ensure project closeout process is performed and information flows back to the estimating/procurement group.
• Create and utilize opportunities with project teams to ensure lessons learned are developed to improve competitive position.
• Champion the Blattner Energy “Product Delivery Stream.”
• Partner with the estimating group to produce high-quality estimates and professional RFP submissions.
• Ensure changes to scope, schedule, and risk are known and accounted for in final pricing.

Qualifications

• Four-year construction management, engineering, or related degree.
• Five or more years of management, estimating, and procurement experience in the renewable market.
• Demonstrated skills in engineering collaboration, construction techniques, estimating, and project financing.
• Conflict management skills required.
• Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record required.
• Extensive travel required.

Requirements

• Strong understanding of construction engineering, requirements, codes, and design concepts.
• Understanding of civil, mechanical, electrical construction, and power delivery.
• Ability to strategically work within approved budget and contribute to profits and revenue.
