Role Description

The Director, Clinical Applications will plan, direct, and oversee all aspects of clinical application engineering, operations, and strategic technology delivery for InnovAge’s PACE (Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly) platform. The portfolio includes the Epic Electronic Medical Record ecosystem, Telehealth platform, Dental platform, Credentialed Trainers and emerging AI-enabled clinical tools. This role is accountable for ensuring that clinical technology solutions meet evolving regulatory requirements, interoperability standards, and SOX-relevant internal controls, while advancing InnovAge’s mission. As a trusted thought partner to clinical and operational leadership, the Director drives technology-enabled care transformation, leveraging AI, interoperability, and data-driven workflows to support Participants, their Caregivers, and our workforce.

  • Develops, procures, and deploys clinical technology solutions from concept through build/configure, integration, testing, and production deployment, including AI-enabled clinical tools and interoperability capabilities aligned with recognized standards.
  • Operates, maintains, and supports clinical technology solutions to meet service-level commitments, including Epic EHR, telehealth, in-home services, and dental platforms.
  • Balances demand management for multiple complex simultaneous projects, operational enhancements, regulatory compliance initiatives, break-fix, and maintenance requests.
  • Partners with clinical, operational, and compliance teams to optimize workflows and design technology solutions that deliver value, exceptional user experience, and excellent outcomes for PACE participants and their caregivers.
  • Researches, recommends, and develops workflow solutions—including agentic AI, clinical decision support, and predictive analytics—to streamline processes, improve care quality, reduce costs, and enhance user experience.
  • Collaborates with business stakeholders to create multi-year capability roadmaps that incorporate regulatory milestones (HIPAA Security Rule enforcement, CMS interoperability deadlines), grooming backlogs quarterly to create release packages/dates.
  • Ensures all projects, initiatives, and processes conform to organizational policies, regulatory requirements (HIPAA, SOX), and are on schedule and within budget.
  • Leads, mentors, and develops the performance of the applications team.
  • Collaborates across all IT functions to deliver sustainable, resilient platforms and applications, including the Cloud/Infrastructure, Integration, Architecture, and Data teams.
  • Responsible for release and change management, coordination, and adherence to quality standards for multiple clinical technology solutions.
  • Manages overall clinical application budget and costs, including vendor contracts, licensing, and infrastructure.
  • Defines and tracks performance metrics to quantify team performance against vision and organizational goals, including system uptime, incident response times, and regulatory compliance posture.
  • Oversees numerous projects in parallel, prioritizing resources effectively and being pragmatic about what can be achieved given resource availability and regulatory timelines.
  • Ensures compliance with relevant regulatory and industry standards including HIPAA (Privacy, Security, and Breach Notification Rules), SOX 404B, CMS PACE program requirements, and relevant National, State and regional requirements.
  • Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the clinical applications organization, including an AI governance framework and data-driven care delivery roadmap.
  • Consults with SVP of Applications to create long-range operating goals addressing specific needs of the business and IT organization, including a digital roadmap leveraging AI, interoperability, and participant-facing tools to improve engagement across digital channels.
  • Partners with peers to define, acquire, and maintain tools to improve operational efficiency, technical support, and compliance tracking.
  • Provides management oversight of clinical applications team, including but not limited to recruitment, hiring, and supervision for services directly reporting to this position.
  • Ensures employee issues are managed in accordance with InnovAge Policies and Procedures.
  • Provides opportunities for professional development for staff.
  • Manages relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, health informatics, or related technical field required; Master’s degree in computer science, health informatics, engineering, healthcare administration, or business administration preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in healthcare technology organizations, with direct accountability for clinical application portfolios and functional team management.
  • Deep knowledge and experience in a multi-disciplinary approach to healthcare technology, with specific experience managing clinical application ecosystems in PACE, senior care, or complex care coordination environments.
  • Proven ability to lead and build strong, scalable, and diverse teams; demonstrated success leading geographically dispersed teams across clinical, technical, and operational disciplines.
  • Healthcare experience is required, with hands-on knowledge of Epic EHR (including configuration, optimization, and FHIR API/interoperability capabilities), and familiarity with complementary clinical systems.
  • Experience with Agile methodology and iterative delivery in regulated healthcare environments.
  • Demonstrated experience hiring, managing, developing, and retaining highly technical staff and leadership in competitive healthcare IT markets.
  • Demonstrated experience leading complex technology development and regulatory compliance projects on time and within budget, including EHR implementations, interoperability initiatives, and security hardening programs.
  • Demonstrated experience leading operations and support teams, ensuring service levels are defined, met, and auditable for regulatory purposes (HIPAA, SOX).
  • Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and courteously—both orally and in writing—with PACE participants, families, clinical staff, regulators, auditors, and executive leadership.
  • Experience working with clinical and enterprise software technologies, including EHR platforms, integration engines (HL7/FHIR), and AI/ML tools.
  • Excellent knowledge of healthcare technology environments, including cloud infrastructure, databases, FHIR-based interoperability, API management, and AI/ML platforms.
  • Experience developing, tracking, and reporting key performance indicators (system uptime, incident response times, team velocity, lead time, cycle time).
  • Experience with data governance frameworks, master data management (MDM), and data quality programs in healthcare environments.
  • Experience developing and maintaining disaster recovery and business continuity plans for clinical systems, aligned with HIPAA contingency planning requirements.

Requirements

  • Organizational and conflict resolution skills, with experience navigating clinical-IT alignment challenges.

  • High tolerance of ambiguity, especially in rapidly evolving regulatory and AI landscapes.
  • Mindset of “value creation” and continuous improvement—driving outcomes for PACE participants through technology, not just completing tasks.

Benefits

  • Supplemental life insurance.
  • Flexible spending accounts.
  • 401(k) savings.
