Role Description
This role involves the coordination and utilization of equipment and supplies for high technology, home medical equipment customers, maintaining the flow of patient information to all departments.
- Receives and processes high tech respiratory referrals.
- Verifies customers’ insurance coverage.
- Provides clinical and demographic information for pre-certification/verification of benefits.
- May negotiate pricing for various services, as determined.
- Obtains prior authorization (PA) and/or a certificate of medical necessity (CMN) when required by insurance company or payor.
- Assesses opportunities to decrease fragmentation in delivery and utilization of equipment and supplies.
- Assesses all high tech respiratory equipment and supply needs, communicating with customer, physician, and payor source as appropriate.
- Collaborates with interdisciplinary team members regarding utilization of equipment and supplies.
- Creates master file in computer system for recurring sales for individual customers.
- Interacts with payors for cases requiring advanced clinical knowledge and detailed knowledge of customer needs.
- Demonstrates initiative in identifying and pursuing opportunities for self-improvement and professional competency.
- Demonstrates effective customer skills and promotes a positive work environment.
- Performs other job functions as assigned or requested.
Qualifications
- Technical Degree or Diploma in Respiratory Therapy
- Associate's Degree in Respiratory Therapy
- 3-5 years of experience as a CRTT
- 1-3 years of experience in home medical equipment
Requirements
- BASIC LIFE SUPPORT - American Heart Association
- Certified Respiratory Therapist - Tennessee Board of Respiratory Care
- Certified Respiratory Therapist - Mississippi State Department of Health
- Certified Respiratory Therapist - Arkansas State Medical Board
- Certified Respiratory Therapist - National Board for Respiratory Care
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Ability to apply problem-solving techniques.
- Ability to assess and interpret medical records to support independent work.
- Ability to work without close supervision and exercise independent judgment.
- Ability to maintain workflow and prepare complex written materials.
- Ability to handle emotional or stressful situations related to patients in acute distress.
Supervision Provided by this Position
- There are no supervisory or lead responsibilities assigned to this position.
Physical Demands
- Physical activities may include climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion.
- Must have good balance and coordination.
- Light work - exerting up to 25 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 10 lbs. of force frequently.
- Close visual acuity required for activities such as preparing and analyzing data and figures, transcribing, and extensive reading.
- Job functions are typically performed under conditions found in general office or administrative work.

- Associates Degree: Respiratory Therapy (Required)
- Technical Degree or Diploma: Respiratory Therapy
