Role Description
The Coding Advisor will be responsible for reviewing patient charts coded by Medical Coding Team Members for accuracy and completeness.
- Review patient charts and applied accompanying codes (ICD-10, CPT, and Internal Tracker Codes) for accuracy.
- Communicate any deficiencies to both team members and leadership.
- Recommend remedial training as necessary.
- Perform reviews of account escalations/second-level reviews or other special project reviews.
- Conduct client and coder-focused audits or chart reviews as needed.
- Notify team members directly of serious deficiencies necessitating focused reviews.
- Discuss issues/questions/problems with Coding QA Management and Coding Management.
- Understand billing and coding requirements for government and commercial payers.
- Abstract statistical data from the patient record and enter information following client/customer guidelines.
- Utilize coding resources or applicable reference materials to ensure accuracy in coding for assigned services.
- Follow all HIPAA regulations and uphold a higher standard around privacy requirements.
- Maintain productivity standards, tracking logs, and deadlines.
- Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards.
Qualifications
- CPC, CPMA, RHIA, RHIT, CCS-P, and/or CCS certification.
- Minimum 1 year of physician coding and auditing experience; multi-specialty experience preferred.
- Surgical Coding Experience preferred.
- Experience in Smartsheet.
- Intermediate skill level in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook.
- Knowledge of auditing and/or coding with CPT/HCPCS/ICD10/PCS.
Requirements
- Base pay range is $18.16 - $31.13 per hour, determined by role, level, location, job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
