[Hiring] Chief of Staff @Mightyacorndigital

Mar 17, 2025 - Mightyacorndigital is hiring a remote Chief of Staff. 💸 Salary: $100,000 to $130,000. 📍Location: USA.

About Mighty Acorn

At Mighty Acorn, we make it easier for governments to deliver world-class digital services. From renewing a fishing license to applying for unemployment benefits, we build digital services that deliver government programs reliably, smoothly, and quickly.

Our vision is a world where “good enough for government work” returns to its pedestal: fast, reliable, and frustration-free. We achieve this by empowering people, increasing transparency, breaking down silos, and moving together toward a shared goal.

One of our core beliefs is that automation can help drive transformation of complex digital services, and we’re especially excited to bring DevOps and automated testing practices into our work.

While our team averages 10+ years of experience in the industry, we are a relatively new (formed in 2023) professional services company. Our government clients engage us to improve their digital products and services in a way that ensures better outcomes for their users and stakeholders. That means our clients hire us for our expertise, which we bill our time for.

About the Chief of Staff role

Mighty Acorn is at an exciting growth point and we’re looking for our first Chief of Staff to help our business scale. The Chief of Staff will play a key part in establishing and strengthening relationships with our government partners, attracting and retaining the best team, and ultimately expanding our capacity to deliver digital services that improve public trust and satisfaction.

The Chief of Staff is a detail-oriented individual who is strategic, adaptable, and execution-focused. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, growing organization and is excited to lead business operations, strategy, and internal team management.

This is a unique opportunity to join a growing consultancy as our first full time business operations team member. As Chief of Staff, you will align company priorities, optimize and own internal processes, and ensure that the company operates efficiently while maintaining its mission-driven culture. You’ll be involved in various functions, from business development and marketing, to people operations and strategic planning, eventually expanding each aspect into a full-time position and recruiting people to own those functions as we grow.

This pivotal leadership role is perfect for someone who can balance high-level strategy with hands-on  execution and enjoys wearing a lot of different “hats” when appropriate.

This is a fully remote position and candidates must be based in and work from the contiguous United States (unfortunately, this excludes residents of Alaska and Hawaii) with at least a 5-hour overlap with 9a-5p ET, Monday through Friday.

Key responsibilities for this role are:

Strategic growth and business development:

  • Work with our team to define and implement growth strategies for the company.

  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities, maintain relationships with existing partners, and track market trends.

  • Conduct and share market research on government procurement opportunities and industry developments.

  • Lead the proposal development and submission process, ensuring high-quality, timely, complete, and competitive responses.

  • Lead brand strategy, including marketing, website content, and thought leadership efforts.

  • Build and maintain an events calendar, identifying key conferences and speaking opportunities, and facilitating session submissions.

Recruiting and employee experience:

  • Lead end-to-end talent acquisition needs, including sourcing candidates, promoting job openings, screening resumes, conducting initial interviews, and scheduling further discussions.

  • Facilitate and promote Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA) initiatives.

  • Own and maintain the employee handbook, code of conduct, and internal documentation to ensure accuracy and clarity.

  • Serve as the Events Captain, overseeing all aspects of company events, including our annual in-person retreats.

  • Oversee employee onboarding, including the procurement and provisioning of accounts and devices for new hires.

  • Support employee experience, ensuring that the company culture remains strong as we grow.

From time to time, you may also be asked to help with various finance and operations tasks.

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications:

  • 4+ years of experience in business operations, strategy, or leadership roles in a professional  services or government consulting environment.

  • Strong experience in at least two of the following areas: business development, marketing,  operations, people management, or finance.

  • Proven ability to drive company-wide initiatives and optimize workflows.

  • Strong project management and communication skills, with a high degree of adaptability and a demonstrated collaborative and supportive approach.

  • Startup mentality, demonstrating entrepreneurialism, adaptability, and resourcefulness.

  • Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills, with an empathetic, solutions-oriented mindset.

It’d be nice if you also have:

  • Experience working in or with government agencies on digital services.

  • Familiarity with government procurement processes and contracting vehicles.

  • Background in scaling operations at a growing consultancy or startup.

  • Experience developing DEIA initiatives and fostering inclusive workplaces.

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial and operational data.

Compensation

Salary for this role will range from $100,000 to $130,000, commensurate with experience. Salaried employees are granted benefits such as health insurance, life insurance, paid time off, and access to the company’s profit sharing plan after 3 months of full-time employment, among other benefits, which you can read more about here.

Other requirements:

  • An ability to work efficiently, sometimes under tight deadlines.

  • A preference for transparency and an ability to be direct and transparent in your own communication.

  • An ability to adapt quickly and cope with temporarily ambiguous situations as requirements change.

  • This role requires work be performed from within the contiguous United States.

  • Candidates must either hold active US citizenship or a green card, and should possess work authorization that does not require any present or future visa sponsorship by Mighty Acorn Digital.

  • Candidates selected for the role must pass a criminal background check prior to their start date.

  • Candidates must have a fast (>100Mbps) and reliable internet connection and have a dedicated workspace with background noise at an appropriate level for audio calls.

  • Candidates must possess at least a Bachelor's degree.

If you don’t meet every requirement but believe you’d be great in this role, we’d love to hear from you! We’re committed to building diverse teams, and research shows that women and underrepresented groups often hesitate to apply unless they meet every qualification. Don't let that hold you back—let’s talk!

Please only submit through this application.

Please apply only through this application process. Direct emails regarding this position will be ignored, unless you're seeking a reasonable accommodation. Further, we are not seeking partnerships with recruiters or agencies for this role, and unsolicited resumes will not be considered. Only candidates that apply through this application will be considered and please do not also send your application materials directly in a follow up email.
