KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Act as Chief Executive and Company Secretary to the SIA.

2. Provide Administration support to the Board, SIA Members and working parties

3. Organise events such as Spring Dinner, Annual Conference, Exhibitions, Webinars and Training.

4. Develop and carry out advocacy for the Solvents Industry in the UK, Europe and Rest of the World.

5.

Keep abreast of all legislation, regulatory activity and developments within the Solvents and Allied Industries and advise and communicate with members

6.

Promote and grow the SIA and forge partnerships with other organisations.

7.

Promote Product Stewardship and work with members and partners to provide Guidance through Notes, Films, Posters, Website, Social Media and other forms of communication.

8.

Provide Ad Hoc advice to members.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1.

Act as Company Secretary to SIA. Act as Company Secretary to SIA, ensuring compliance with the requirements of Companies House, including filing Annual Accounts and registration of Directors. Ensure proper legal / fiscal administration of the affairs of the SIA including financial management, budgeting and the filing annual accounts.

Generate invoices and chase any unpaid debts, utilising the Xero accounting platform. Liaise with the appointed Accountants.

Provide Administration support to the Board and working parties. Act as Company Secretary to both the Board and the Technical Committee. Convene meetings and produce minutes. Progress-chase to meet agreed deadlines. Prepare financial, technical and advisory reports to all committees.

3.

Organise events such as Spring Dinner and Annual Conference. Planning, coordination and management of all functions and events such as the Spring Dinner, Annual Conference, Webinars, Exhibitions and Training Courses. Promotion of the events to members and guests and secure industry speakers.

4.

Develop and carry out advocacy for the Solvents Industry in UK, Europe and Rest of the World. Draft proposed SIA positions on technical and regulatory matters for discussion. Exercise advocacy at appropriate UK, European and ROW regulatory and policy setting bodies. Collate responses to Consultations from Regulators. Actively promote the SIA across the UK, Europe and ROW.

Attend meetings with the European Solvents Industry Group (ESIG) and report activities to members.

Attend meetings with the Alliance of Chemical Associations, HSE CDOIF Group, Environment Agency and other Government Departments as required.

Keep abreast of all legislation, regulatory activity and developments within the Solvents and Allied Industries and advise and communicate with members Draft common positions on regulatory or other matters. Keep abreast of trends in the industry and highlight key issues Forward information to Members by email circulation or any other media such as Linked-In that the Board may choose. Author and propose website articles. Manage Website content and update on an agreed timescale.

6.

Promote and grow the SIA and forge partnerships with other organisations. Identify and target potential members. Liaise with other Trade Bodies, Regulators, NGOs, Business Partners and potential members. Put forward the work of the SIA for Awards, Competitions etc.

Develop material and marketing campaigns to promote the work of the Association.

7.

Promote Product Stewardship and work with members and partners to provide Guidance through Notes, Films, Posters, Website, Social Media and any other forms of communication. Identify Product Stewardship key messages. Devise Product Stewardship campaigns and project manage.

Produce safety films and marketing material to promote the safe and sustainable use of solvents.

Manage Working Groups to promote safe working.

8.

Provide Ad Hoc advice to members Provide Ad-Hoc advice and guidance to members as required.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS AND PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES

The educational qualifications and job experience necessary for the individual to fulfil this Job Description are:

Desirable would be Degree level in Science or Technical subject.

Experience of commercial aspects in chemical or related industries.

Senior managerial experience in solvents or allied industry.

Effective negotiator with regulators and industry contacts.

Able to deliver training courses and arrange suitable venues.

Proven IT skills with the ability to manage the website and other communication media.

Effective project management skills.

Understanding of how to manage a small business / self employed.

Excellent and proven oral and written communication skills.

Ability to author complex discussion documents.

Sound interpersonal skills.

Self starter and using of own initiative.
