Role Description

As an Aerodynamics Engineer at XTI Aerospace, you will play a pivotal role in the development of the TriFan 600, the first commercial, vertical take-off, long-range aircraft. Reporting to the Senior Aerodynamics Engineering Manager, you will perform numerical analyses and simulations that span all phases of the aircraft’s design—from initial concept and optimization to complex configuration assessments. Your expertise in computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and aerodynamic analysis will directly influence design decisions, ensuring optimal performance, safety, and efficiency for current and future XTI products.

  • Design & Analysis: Develop and analyze aerodynamic models for the TriFan 600, creating a robust numerical aerodynamic database to support design decisions.
  • Simulation Development: Utilize state-of-the-art CFD tools and meshing software to simulate complex airflow configurations, balancing competing design requirements.
  • Data Validation: Conduct validation and verification studies; document, report, and communicate analytical findings and recommendations.
  • Performance Support: Provide aerodynamic predictions and data analysis to support subscale and full-scale flight testing, ensuring alignment with 14 CFR Part 21 certification requirements.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with internal teams and external partners to integrate aerodynamic insights into overall aircraft performance, safety, and design.
  • Technical Documentation: Prepare comprehensive technical documentation, including design specifications, simulation results, and test reports.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Apply your understanding of FAA regulations and industry standards to advise on airplane design decisions and ensure compliance throughout the development process.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ hands-on experience in aerodynamic analysis and CFD, particularly within aerospace or related industries.
  • Proficient with FUN3D and mesh generation software.
  • Solid understanding of both fixed-wing and rotorcraft aerodynamics.
  • Familiarity with 14 CFR Part 23 or Part 27 certification requirements and FAA regulations.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical communication skills.
  • Proven ability to work effectively in cross-functional, dynamic team environments.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of relevant engineering experience.
  • Advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) in Aerospace Engineering or a related field.
  • Familiarity with 14 CFR Part 23 or Part 27, 25 & 29 certification requirements and FAA regulations.
  • Strong programming skills (e.g., Python) for developing custom evaluation tools.
  • Proficiency with specialized CFD tools such as CHARM and Pointwise.
  • Demonstrated experience in modeling rotorcraft or other VTOL vehicles.
