Role Description

The Advancement Director will lead Native Movement fundraising efforts. This position will work collaboratively with the Executive Director, the Grants/Advancement Team, and Directors team to further Native Movement fundraising strategy, funder relations, and other related aspects of fundraising. This position will have a supervisory role and will be a part of the directors team at Native Movement.

  • Vision and implementation of fundraising strategies and objectives.
  • Collaboration with Executive Director and team directors in the development and execution of fundraising plans.
  • Review and oversight of fundraising documents – written materials, video production, etc – in collaboration with the Executive Director.
  • Management of Native Movement funder relations and prospective relations.
  • Oversight of grant funding cycles – from research to outreach plans, award, reporting, and close out – with grants support team.
  • Ensuring deadlines are met for funding cycles.
  • Oversight of donor database software, ensuring adequate usage of tools and applications.
  • Travel to Alaska and other locations may be required.

Qualifications

  • Authentic understanding of Indigenous values, history, and the complexity and brilliance of contemporary Native communities.
  • Experience in nonprofit fundraising and grant writing.
  • High level of administrative and business operations skills and experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communications – verbal and written – skills.
  • Cultural competency to work with a diverse range of people, especially Alaska Native and rural Alaskan communities.
  • Commitment to Social and Climate Justice and Equity.
  • Excellent listening and retention skills.
  • Strong writing skills.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both in writing and verbally.
  • Nonprofit fundraising knowledge.
  • Self-starter who takes initiative and is eager to elevate NM.
  • Strong work ethic and ability to multitask.
  • Strong team building ability.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Composure and flexibility adapting to shifting priorities and short turnaround times.
  • Understanding and/or analysis of the disparities that exist within philanthropic giving and the differences between Indigenous wealth redistribution models.
