[Hiring] Senior Datacenter Engineering Design Manager @Microsoft

Role Description

The Senior Datacenter Engineering Design Manager will manage the engineering scope, schedule, and budget for greenfield, brownfield, and retrofit engineering/design projects. This position will manage internal and external resources for the delivery of the Datacenter building, power, cooling, telecom, and controls infrastructure to align with Microsoft Corporation datacenter capacity roadmap.

The Senior Datacenter Design Manager will be responsible for the facilitation and delivery of Microsoft’s industry-leading datacenter designs, including:

• Development of innovative technology and advanced concepts from Site Due Diligence through design development, permitting, construction, and turnover to Operations.
• Providing design management, technical direction, decision-making, and overall leadership for datacenter designs.
• Overseeing the delivery of multiple, concurrent, complete Datacenter design solutions aligned with the scopes, schedules, and budgets of the projects.
• Engaging with key Microsoft stakeholder groups and outside vendors specializing in datacenter architecture and engineering.

• Coordinate a team of architects, engineers, and designers to deliver projects aligned with the defined scope, schedule, and budget.
• Collaborate with on-site operations teams to perform feasibility/gap analysis for conversion of existing datacenter spaces to new/upgraded uses.
• Demonstrate communication, organization, and leadership skills.
• Possess proficiency in commercial and industrial architecture and engineering with a primary focus on datacenter design.
• Able to work with other technical and non-technical groups in a fast-paced environment with an even temperament.
• Exhibit integrity, methodical, detail-oriented work ethic.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, or related field and 4+ years of experience in engineering, architecture, construction engineering, or equivalent experience.
• 2+ years’ experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team design/construction projects.

Requirements

• Ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements.
• Microsoft Cloud Background Check: Required to pass upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree and 10+ years of engineering, architecture, construction engineering experience.
• 5+ years experience leading cross-discipline engineering/architectural teams in design for construction projects.
• Registered Professional Engineer or Architect.
• PMP certification.

Compensation

The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $160,200 - $261,000 per year.
