Managing Editor of Local

Capital B is a first-of-its-kind local and national nonprofit news organization reporting for Black communities across the country. We're looking for an experienced editor who is committed to community journalism to manage our expanding network of local newsrooms.

Capital B's managing editor of local will have the rare opportunity to build a collection of newsrooms in Black communities across the country that are underserved by local news. This is a senior editorial position in the Capital B organization, and this editor's primary responsibility is to support our local newsroom editors and their teams as they execute Capital B's mission — to produce high-quality civic and explanatory journalism that centers Black Americans — for their unique local audiences.

The ideal candidate will be a builder with experience establishing or expanding teams. They will work with senior leaders to identify locations for newsrooms, hire staff, oversee their development, and establish them as trusted sources of news and information in their communities. This person must be comfortable working with editors and reporters from a variety of backgrounds and with various experience levels, developing them in the practice of community-centered reporting.

The position reports to the editorial director.

Salary: $120,000-$140,000
