Director of Digital Experience

BDT seeks a Director of Digital Experience to lead the development of our digital client experiences that deliver engaging and innovative ways to access essential benefits and services, so that people can live healthier, more independent lives. The Director of Digital Experience reports to the Chief Digital Officer, partnering to lead the planning and executing of digital product strategy for BDT. This role leads a team of Product Managers responsible for establishing the vision and delivery of digital products and the Software Engineering team responsible for building and maintaining BDT digital products.

The Director of Digital Experience is accountable for the end-to-end delivery process and the full product suite's maturation from product conception, requirements, development, and sustainment. The position will maintain a deep understanding of the needs and interests of individuals eligible for benefits, along with the interests of current and potential users and partners. The Director is instrumental in delivering organizational priorities and communicating plans to achieve BDT's mission.

BDT is a remote-first organization. Employees may work remotely or from BDT's Philadelphia office.

Responsibilities:

Product Leadership

• Guides the work of the Product Managers to design and launch innovative products and features, assessing value, usability, and feasibility of product concepts and experiences
• Prioritizes roadmap initiatives, coordinates release planning to inform departmental resourcing, and resolves gaps or overlaps
• Sets and monitors standards for product process and communication and ensures that the product end-to-end delivery process is executed effectively
• Collaborates with Innovation and Business Development teams to execute the go-to-market strategy for new products, setting a clear vision for implementation one to three years out
• Works with executive leadership to develop long-term product strategy
• Engages and motivates a diverse group of contributors to generate solutions with detailed metrics that can be successfully implemented
• Understand the detailed business needs and prioritize them to put solutions in place to address them

Development Leadership

• Provides technical expertise, guidance, and oversight for software development
• Ensures availability and accessibility of applications to ensure systems are ready for business hours by strengthening quality assurance
• Partners with the Data & Security Teams to implement technical solutions, ensuring that the software solutions provided are collaborative, inclusive, and adhere to data and security standards
• Partners with architects and the portfolio manager to ensure that software development processes align with the defined architecture and methodology
• Co-creates, maintains, and delivers on the technical strategy/roadmap to maintain, support, and improve our technology platform
• Integrates emerging technologies such as chatbots, mobile devices & wearables, Artificial Intelligence, etc.

Lead the Team

• Manages the software engineering department with employee support, hiring, conflict resolution, and HR responsibilities
• Guides decision-making through a wide lens, simultaneously considering strategic and tactical issues, short-term and long-term implications, and idea generation and project execution
• Supports, coaches, and mentors the team and develops the management skills of frontline managers
• Manages the budget for the team
• Tracks the work being done and holds the team accountable for delivering the work assigned
• Supports the Chief Digital Officer in understanding, planning, and implementing the digital strategy

Desired Background and Competencies:

• Leading and managing development activity for enterprise-level solutions
• 10-15 years of progressive experience leading product organizations
• Technical background in the areas of software product/enterprise application development
• Commitment to the mission and nonprofit organization experiencing transformation is a plus
• Effective communicator and relationship builder
• Able to remove barriers to productive teamwork creating an environment of accountability and an increasing sense of belonging and ownership
• Facile with agile development processes and can improve the team's process, estimation, and forecasting capabilities
• Adept at building and leading teams
• Action-oriented with the ability to get things done and overcome obstacles
• Experience managing complex business and technical environments and requirements
• Effective C-suite partner and executive business communications
• Communicates with stakeholders about how BDT's products fit into the overall organizational strategy
