Quality Control Senior Analytical Scientist

The role of the Quality Control Senior Analytical Scientist (QCS) will report to the Vice President, Quality Assurance, and will involve making decisions regarding various QC testing processes pertaining to Athletic Greens raw materials, finished products and contract manufacturers. This role will also include the creation of both raw material and finished product specifications and will require a broad understanding of Title 21 CFR Part 111 Good Manufacturing Practices, Title 21 CFR Part 101 Nutrition Labeling of Food, as well as knowledge of DSHEA.

The QCS will be responsible for leading Athletic Greens Product Stability program and will work cross functionally to define stability testing requirements by product type. The QCS will be a leader in the organization in setting excellent quality control standards for ingestible products. The QCS will also participate in the creation and implementation of departmental policy and procedures and interact effectively with other departments to accomplish GMP and quality-related goals. This position requires in-depth knowledge of and experience in analytical laboratory testing using HPLC, TLC, GC, GC-MS, LC-MS, ICP/MS, FTIR, UV-Vis spectrophotometric, microbiological, and /or general analytical laboratory techniques.

• Independently lead and manage the quality aspect of relationships with contract laboratories and manufacturers.
• Develop, execute and manage stability study protocols related to formula stability, package/formula compatibility, and establishment of product expiration dating, and communicate requirements with all appropriate functions prior to study placement.
• Draft and/or gain approvals for study amendments, deviations and stability reports.
• Creation of technical justification to support shelf-life extensions or other changes as appropriate.
• Develop and oversee the implementation of raw materials specifications.
• Develop and oversee the implementation of finished product testing.
• Participate in the creation of Bill of Materials (BOMs) and Master Manufacturing Records (MMRs).
• Initiate and coordinate the regular review of internal QC policies and help ensure company compliance with GMPs and other regulatory guidelines (FDA, EPA, OSHA, AQMB, etc.).
• Perform other special projects as needed.

• M.S. Degree in Nutrition, Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry or related field.
• At minimum, 5 years analytical experience, including supervisory experience with proficiency in HPLC, GC, ICP-MS or similar instrumental analysis, implementation experience for HPLC and general analytical chemistry laboratory techniques, and troubleshooting of equipment and methods.
• In-depth knowledge of and experience testing nutraceuticals/botanicals/extracts.
• Good documentation and presentation skills— data collection, report writing, and graph production.
• Detail oriented individual with high level of analytical ability to problem solve and create/find solutions utilizing an 'out-of-the-box' mindset.
• Ability to work in an entrepreneurial reactionary environment.
• Demonstrated skills in teamwork, collaboration, and effective communication.
• Problem solving aptitude, with ability to create work-around methods for immediate use, and to initiate best-method processes for future implementation.
