Apr 05, 2025 - Wikimedia Foundation is hiring a remote Senior Product Manager. 💸 Salary: $104,691 to $161,585. 📍Location: USA, UK, Canada, Germany, France, India, Brazil, Australia, Estonia, Sweden, Greece, Belgium, Poland, South Africa, Italy, Colombia, Ireland, Switzerland, Netherlands, Egypt, Finland, Denmark, Singapore, Czech Republic, Croatia, Israel, Spain, Mexico, Austria, Indonesia, Costa Rica, Bangladesh, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, Peru, Uganda, Uruguay.

Summary

The Wikimedia Foundation is looking for a collaborative Senior Product Manager to support our work on Abstract Wikipedia, a project that aims to increase access to encyclopedic knowledge by enabling more people to share more knowledge in more languages.

We’re committed to making knowledge available to everyone globally. This is an opportunity to do good while building new technology at the intersection of machine learning, natural language generation, and computational linguistics.

Abstract Wikipedia is a visionary project that asks, what if we could write Wikipedia articles once, in an abstract form, and then translate it into any language by building a community-edited natural language system to generate readable text? The technical foundation for this future is Wikifunctions, a multilingual, open-source catalog of code functions that anyone can use, remix, test, and learn from.

The Senior Product Manager is accountable for turning the vision of Abstract Wikipedia into a tangible impact. This is a one-of-a-kind opportunity to build the future of the Internet and radically expand access to free knowledge. You will be working on an international team based in time zones UTC-4 to UTC+1.

You are responsible for:

  • Developing a roadmap that balances short-term execution with long-term strategic goals.
  • Building alignment between stakeholders and the community to define and drive the product vision and strategy.
  • Owning the end-to-end product lifecycle, from ideation to launch and iteration.
  • Using qualitative and quantitative methods to inform decisions, discover opportunities, and measure impact.
  • Deeply understanding our community needs, releasing features iteratively to deliver value and validate hypotheses.
  • Establishing and refining product development processes and best practices.
  • Bringing structured thinking to product discovery, prioritization, and decision-making.
  • Leading the prioritization of new products and services, as well as our product backlog.
  • Communicating trade-offs to drive product decisions and move the team forward.
  • Communicating a clear product vision to internal and external audiences.

Skills and Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years of product management experience in software development.
  • A structured yet flexible approach to product development, capable of adapting methodologies to fit the needs of our team and organization.
  • Experience developing and refining product management frameworks, demonstrating a deep understanding of product strategy, execution, and decision-making.
  • Past success in breaking down ambiguous projects into clear tasks, with a bias toward action.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to clearly and proactively communicate plans and results to stakeholders and collaborators.
  • Excellent follow-up, attention to detail, time management, and project management skills.
  • Ability to interact effectively and develop productive working relationships with management, peers, and communities.
  • An interest in and ability to work remotely with a distributed team across time zones.
  • Comfortable with evolving requirements and priorities in a dynamic environment.

Additionally, we’d love it if you have:

  • Experience with natural language processing, computational linguistics or knowledge management technologies
  • Experience with multilingual products or platforms, good understanding of internationalization and localization
  • Experience editing Wikimedia projects
