Spotlight Sports Group is a media company which focuses on horse racing, greyhounds, football and sports betting. The company owns Racing Post, ICS-digital, ICS-translate and Apsley Group. The group publishes Racing Post, a daily national newspaper and runs multiple award-winning websites and apps, including Pickswise. Our global B2B division provides a range of content services across bespoke news content, live sports data, video partnerships and much more.

We are seeking an SEO Content Editor to report directly to the US Managing Editor. In this role, you will be responsible for implementing the evergreen content strategy across Pickswise and multiple group-agreed media partnerships. The successful candidate will not only manage, maintain, refresh, and optimize evergreen content, but also play a pivotal role in supporting the editorial team to optimize their content and target trending stories within the industry.

As the SEO Content Editor, your key responsibilities will include:

• Creation and management of evergreen content that drives traffic and converts users
• Providing comprehensive content briefs to ensure high-standard, keyword-targeted, and SERP-optimized content production
• Regularly updating and maintaining evergreen content to ensure freshness, relevance, and year-round optimization
• Managing conversion for all evergreen content, including implementing unique click tracking and affiliated links to track and understand value
• Creating and maintaining the sporting calendar and content roadmap to identify and plan new content for fresh topics and events
• Delivering clear and concise reporting, encompassing traffic, keyword rankings, engagement, and conversion
• Auditing and enhancing internal linking across the site
• Taking charge of Publisher SEO, ensuring content is well-optimized and published in line with SEO best practices
• Assisting the Managing Editor(s) in content planning and curation based on keyword data, trending topics, and seasonality
• Promoting SEO within content by providing helpful resources and leading training workshops to upskill and implement SEO best practices
• Monitoring performance in Google News and Top Stories, testing new approaches to enhance reach and visibility

Requirements

• Strong organizational skills and a keen eye for detail
• Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
• A deep understanding of user intent and conversion
• Outstanding project management skills
• A proven track record of effectively managing KPIs and ROI, including analyzing results and explaining variances from targets
• Proficiency in data handling, with experience in Excel and/or Google Sheets
• Previous experience in content editing, either in a prior SEO role or Editorial role
• Familiarity with working with content in Google News, Top Stories, and Google Discover
• Experience with Google Analytics, Google Search Console, and Google Publisher Centre
• Proficiency with SEO tools such as Semrush, Ahrefs, Screaming Frog, Botify, Accuranker, or similar platforms

While not essential, the following attributes would be advantageous:

• Passion for sports, particularly an in-depth knowledge of US Sports like NFL and NBA
• Experience working with or for a sports betting and gaming affiliate
• Competence in using Google Data Studio or similar tools to automate and visualize data
