Head of Design

We at n8n are building the most powerful, flexible, and open workflow automation platform for technical people out there. In order to succeed with this we need a Head of Design that gets excited by complex problems to solve and wants to be part of shaping the future of low-code workflow automation.

We launched n8n at the end of 2019 as a Source Code Available (practically Open Source) product and things have grown exponentially since then.

What you'll be doing

For us, Design is a critical function that is given the autonomy to solve user problems.

As n8n is a startup, this role is part managerial, part Individual Contributor (currently around 50/50 split, moving to more management over time). Your responsibilities include:

• Building and leading a best-in-class Design function at n8n (currently 2 designers), creating a safe space to experiment and the rigour to deliver exceptional solutions
• Contributing to the vision setting and strategic direction of the overall n8n product, and working closely with other product and engineering leaders to move towards common company goals
• Be the sole product designer in one of our squads (monetization)

Requirements

• 5+ years of relevant product design experience in technology designing solutions to user problems, using a modern hypothesis-driven approach to product design
• Formal or informal experience managing and inspiring other designers as an empathetic design leader
• Happy taking a complex user problem and breaking it down into parts, then structuring your approach
• Willingness to get your hands dirty (at first you’ll spend 50% of your time as an individual contributor, although this will change over time as the function grows)
• Growth mentality thriving in a high-paced environment such as in a start-up/early-stage scale-up
• Ability to influence and guide the wider organization towards a cohesive, user-centric quality standard
• Curious and love learning new stuff (super important)
• Humble, kind, and are open to feedback (super duper important)

Bonus

• Experience working on Developer tools, a passion for automation, or a technical background
• Proficiency in using data and analytics
• Extensive user research experience
